About Us
Our mission is simple: to raise healthy, grass-fed animals on pasture, year-round. It starts with the soil, and at Smith Meadows, our sustainable farming practices foster health and nutrition from the pasture to the plate.
Our cattle, sheep, pigs and laying hens are handled humanely from the day that they are born. Our cattle and sheep are 100% grass-fed and finished, meaning they are never given grain. Our free-range pigs and hens are always on pasture, and are supplemented with non-GMO wheat, barley, and corn. We use no antibiotics, growth hormones, or animal by-products. In addition, the pastures have not been chemically fertilized, or treated with pesticides or herbicides.
We are a living, working farm where animals are raised in as natural an environment as we can provide. Forrest Pritchard has worked years with his family and farm employees to create a system to rotate chickens, pigs, beef cattle, and sheep so that they are always on a fresh piece of pasture. When patrons visit the farm, they are always amazed at how beautiful it is, and how well the animals live. You are welcome to our farm any day of the week. The store is open from 9 am-7 pm.
Enjoy a walk on our Virginia Wildlife Birding Trail or a longer two mile, self-guided tour of the farm. See all the animals in their natural habitat, and learn how we raise the food we bring to farmers’ markets, and sell in our on-farm store.
Thank you to all of our loyal patrons who come to visit us. We enjoy being able to show you what local and regenerative agriculture can be.
